“I will definitely recommend you to my friends. I’m also excited to see their reactions when they see the dining room.”
4 Large Home Design Ideas for the Holidays
While small spaces pose a design challenge in terms of creative use of minimal spaces, large houses on the other hand also challenge homeowners with a surplus of space and how to use it smartly without ending up with a gaudy interior design look.
If you live in a house that has high ceilings and generous floor area, we share five interior design ideas that you should try.
Create continuity between your living room and backyard
While we try to create clear demarcations between our indoor spaces and outdoor spaces, with a large house, you have the opportunity to create a seamless flow between your home and your backyard.
This is an especially good interior design idea for bringing the outdoors in. Show off the landscaping, pool area, or a breathtaking view in your backyard by connecting it with your living area via large glass doors that create the illusion of continuity, while also bringing in lots of natural light.
Place a lounge area in your bedroom
In a a large bedroom, you can certainly have a dedicated area for lounging. Think of it as a small living space where you can read, relax, or even entertain house guests.
Take a cue from luxury hotel rooms that implement the same design idea in a suite. Next to the bedroom is typically a study as well as a sofa. Follow smart design principles in copping a suite- like atmosphere in the bedroom by anchoring each space. For example, organize the seating area around a rug, while overhead lighting can be placed at the study.
Explore an open plan layout
It may seem intuitive to create several rooms in a large house but you can further highlight an expanse of floor area by implementing an open play layout. Not to mention, this creates a bright and airy interior design look and feel with lots of light coming in. An ope layout also calls attention to details such as a high ceiling. One example of a good open plan layout is to have the kitchen next to the dining area.
Add playfulness to your office with a gallery wall
Finally, a large home office can serve not only as your remote working space but as the backdrop for an art collection. If your office—or any room in your large house for that matter— has an unused wall, why not use it for a gallery or a triptych of art? Or mix it up with a combination of framed art and a floor sculptures on the floor for a vignette that is sure to start a conversation.

Refreshing Your Child’s Study Area? 3 Interior Design Ideas To Try
It’s always a good time to refresh your child’s study area. And while students are back to face- to-face classes, hybrid days are not about to go away soon, nor will the need for a home study to work on assignments.
In this piece, we share three easy interior design ideas for updating your child’s study area in time for school.
Add visual interest to the room’s interior design
Whether your child is attending classes via Zoom or doing homework, a work area that is visually interesting and more importantly, tailored to their personal style, will make for a more inspiring space to study in.
Here are a few ways to do it:
* Create a mood board. A mood board can be a cork board, white board (or any magnetic board) that can hold pieces of art, quotes, and other visual items that can help spark ideas. An even better, it can double as decor. Get your child involved in placing items on the board. This can include personal artworks, postcards, photos or even tridimensional objects such as magnets, handmade crafts, or any item they may fancy. Finally, mount the mood in an area in front of your child’s desk.
* Add greenery. It is a well-known fact that plants have health benefits that can help make a home study more conducive to work. Indoor plants purify the air, help lessen stress, and sharpen concentration. Not to mention, the very sight of greenery not only lends a sense of calm and visual interest to a study area.
* Add decorative yet functional items. A colorful study desk with items that marry form and function further turns any area from boring to inspiring. In a pinch, a decorative jar can work as a pen holder. Tablet stands and mobile phone holders in your child’s favorite color or print further personalizes his or her space. On the other hand, a decorative catch-all for small school supplies helps manage desktop messes.
Declutter and update storage solutions.
As your child’s school supplies and books accumulate over the months and years, you may find that your home study area is slowly getting overtaken by these items. Take time to declutter and sort any items that can be kept and those that can be donated.
Ensure that educational materials don’t go to waste by sending these to charities, where these school supplies and books can be put to good use.
As for the remaining items? Get creative with book storage by applying a decorative sense to organizing these. A few interior design ideas to try/ You can try organizing books by color or combine vertical storage with horizontal stacks. Adding framed art and decorate items like a colorful paperweight also makes for a more visually appealing bookshelf.
Invisible book shelves like this iconic design by Umbra makes books appear a thought they are floating on walls.
As for school supplies, get creative with storing these by using storage bins like these colorful, stackable ones or get crafty with these DIY fabric-covered boxes.
Pick out ergonomic furniture.
Finally, make your child’s home study more comfortable and conducive to study with functional items that do their health good.
Ergonomic chairs need not look drab and dull. From midcentury modern inspired designs to bright-colored printed options, you can find a comfy office chair that your child will appreciate as much as enjoy using.
As for your child’s work desk, investing in a standing desk can help make hours of study more bearable. You can now find a variety of desks that can be manually adjusted or comes with a built-in monitor. The designs are usually minimalist but that only means you can easily decorate these to fit your child’s personal aesthetic. No intention to update the desk? Laptop risers or desktop risers can easily convert a regular table to a standing desk.

Five Home Design Trends to Try for Your Office in 2022
Now that hybrid work is the hallmark for many of us, it is about time we updated our work stations—either at home or at the office—to make it more visually appealing and more importantly, conducive to productivity.
In this article, we explore five home design trends for your remote workspace, but one that you can just as easily apply to your onsite desk.
Look for eco-friendly pieces
Sustainable office supplies and furniture not only look visually appealing, they do the plant good. Desk organizers done in bamboo lend an organic look and feel while keeping pens, clips, post-its, and other knick knacks in their place.
You can also take it a step further by incorporating sustainable office supplies into your arsenal. These locally-made, plantable pencils will not only look good on your desk, they contain seeds inside them that you can actually grow.
Finally, nothing says eco-friendly more than adding indoor plants to your office. Not only do they add a nice decorative touch to the home design of your remote set-up, they have observed health benefits such as purifying the air and helping manage stress. In a pinch, you can even grow your own food with vegetables that can be cultivated indoors such as green onions and celery.
Add art deco inspired furniture
The elegance of art deco style with its generous use of wood, metallic accents, and geometric design elements makes it a timeless choice not just for other rooms in your home, but also the one you work in.
You don’t need to update your entire office in art deco pieces but you can certainly incorporate individual pieces inspired by the style that first made its mark at the turn of the 20th century.
For investment pieces, look for exotic wood desks in mahogany or oak finished in a high gloss. Opulent chairs ion a classic black, cream, or even red completes your desk. Other art deco accent pieces you can add to your home design? Why not incorporate a bar cart in your office for those after-hours drinks, a classic standing globe, or a rug with a geometric print. Finally nothing says art deco like a brass desk lamp.
Create a space where you can relax
Work life balance is easier to come by when you have a separate nook in your home office for that power nap, for relaxing with a book, or even for brainstorming.
This can be as simple as a reading are with a comfy, accent chair and a decorative reading lamp, or a space-saving two-seater sofa. Just make sure to apply the same aesthetic sense as you would with your living room with pillows and even a decorative throw to make the area even more cozy and inviting.
Incorporate works of art
Finally make your office more inspiring by incorporating art. This can be a curated gallery wall or even a sculpture that you can place on your desk or on the floor as part of a mixed-media vignette.
If you have not started with an art collection, there is no need to feel intimidated by it. As with any passion, focus on subjects that interest it. Visit your local gallery and take note of the works that caught your eye and learn about the style of these art pieces. Finally, support local artists including up and coming talent. You can talk to a gallery curator or art consultant to guide you in putting together your first collection.

Top 5 Mid-year Updates to Your Home Interior Design
We’re halfway through the year and it’s the perfect time to do a refresh of your home’s interior design. In this article we share 5 ways to update your space, from easy swaps to more thoughtful switches.
Change up the fabrics in your living room
There are several ways to creatively go about this. First of all, if you haven’t been updating your throw pillows, now is the time to change it up. Combine solid colors and prints (make sure the print picks up on a color for one of the solids). You can even place a fabric throw on your sofa set to create more texture.
Reupholstering your seating is another way to update your fabric. If you have a statement chair, change it to a new color (pick a bright hue to add an interesting pop to your living area). Other pieces to consider for reupholstery is your largest sofa or a pair of accent chairs.
Reposition your furniture
Another way to update the look of your interior design is to simply move around your furniture. Re-arrange seating in your living area. If you need to make any updates like incorporating a home office in the space, now is the time to do that. You can also reposition your seating so that they are not arranged around the placement of your TV. In this way, the area can be focused mainly on socials.
In the dining room, reconfigure depending on your space. Whether your dining room is incorporated into your kitchen or in a formal area in your home, you can play around with different types of dining sets (add banquet seating to create a breakfast nook) and placements of appliances and furniture like a china cabinet or buffet.
You can also re-arrange the furniture in your bedroom. Play around with the placement of the bed, seating (whether it’s a pair of chairs with a small table or a long ottoman), your work desk, and free-standing storage, if any.
Incorporate creative storage
You’d be surprised how many creative ways you can explore to add more storage to your home. Here are some examples you can look into.
• Add pull-out storage built into stair steps.
• Use an odd space under the staircase for built-in or freestanding storage
• Have custom storage built into odd nooks and crannies.
• Add a slim roll-out cart to your kitchen.
Update your walls
Whether it’s removing or replacing old wallpaper or repainting an accent wall, updating your wall makes for a fairly easy but interesting update to your home interior design. For an accent wall, choose one side and paint in an eye-catching hue.
For wallpaper, consider flora and fauna prints, which are very on-trend this 2022. Up the ante of the nature inspiration, and take note from biophilic design, by picking a well-lit, well ventilated spot and bringing indoor plants into your space to complement your walls.
Update your art collection—or start one
If you have an art collection, consider updating your collection by visiting art fairs, galleries, or speaking to your art consultant. Or if you wish to work with your existing collection of paintings, sculptures, and functional art, consider rearranging your pieces differently or transferring specific items to other parts of the home. Perhaps combine these with other objects of interest such as a sculpture with a stack of books.

Top 5 Filipino-themed Interior Design Ideas
Interior design is one of the best ways to showcase your culture. And homes that take inspiration from Filipino design elements allows you to marry tradition with modernity. Moreover, Fiilipino homes certainly have a timelessness to it that transcends trends yet still gives you the flexibility to customize your interiors to accommodate your personal tastes. In this article, we take you through five classic design ideas that are a must-have in your Filipino-style abode.
Rattan furniture
Rattan furniture is as ubiquitous part of Filipino homes. The hardy material works just as well indoors as it does outdoors. That is because natural rattan is low maintenance and resilient: rattan is able to stand up to harsh tropical conditions. And when it comes time to clean your rattan furniture, you can simply dust it off.
A rattan set lends itself well to outdoor setting such as your garden or patio. The natural material complements greenery for an organic look. To customize your vignette, easily dress it up with pillows designed for outdoor use.
Indoors, rattan furniture can be incorporated into your living room, dining areas, or bedrooms as an upholstered sofa, dining chairs, large ottomans, or even as painted headboards.
Woven home décor
More on natural materials, woven décor refreshes your home interior design with its earthy, organic feel. Woven baskets, vases, and other pieces are very widely available locally and are easy to source. You can even find woven items designed for your home office such as pen holders and laptop stands. Baskets of course provide storage solutions especially if space is at a premium. For entertaining, woven placemats, plate chargers, and coasters can be combined with modern dinnerware for an updated take on a Filipino-themed dinner party.
All these make woven home decor the perfect combination of form and functionality.
Capiz shells
Capiz windows area cornerstone of the Filipino home, and one of its most defining design elements. But Capiz can also find its way in other parts of your interiors. With its iridescent quality, a capiz shell lamp makes for a great conversation piece. Hang one in your dining room or as an accent to your living area. Other ways to incorporate this material into your home?
Try an eye-catching capiz lamp, which illuminates a room even when it Is not turned on. Classic lanterns in playful colors is a great addition to children’s bedrooms while the classic white can be used to light up a garden.
Philippine woods
Kamagong. Molave. Yakal. Narra.
These are some of the local woods that first come to mind when we think of Filipino interiors. Each one has its distinct qualities and are suited for different home design and outdoor applications.
Narra, although endangered, is one of the most popular hardwoods. Because this species is protected, it is likely that you will find Narra in older homes, such as in floor tiles. Along with Narra, Kamagong is also considered endangered. This wood, also known as Philippine Ebony is characterized by its dark streaks. Hard and durable Molave is strong enough to use for windows as well as railroad tracks.
Pottery
Finally, local pottery lends a decidedly Filipino look and feel to your home. But what makes it different from other types of pottery? Firstly, local pottery has been in existence for thousands of years. The infamous Manungggul jar, which features two human figures on a boat is one of our most notable pieces.
Local stoneware artisans can be found across the country from Sagada to Cavite. The painstaking process which involves sourcing clay, aging, casting, hand forming, baking, cooling, and glazing can easily take several days. The result are handmade pieces that each contribute a unique decorative touch to your Filipino home.

5 Home Design Tips for Your Vacation Home
When it comes to vacation home design, the overdone interior elements need not apply. Seashell motifs. Gaudy cabin-style décor. Coastal clichés awash in a predictable blue and white palette.
As with your primary abode, your vacation home also deserve well-thought design decisions. In this article we list five decorative ideas to turn your home away from home into a practical, comforting, yet stylish space.
Multitasking furniture
A vacation home is intended to accommodate other guests apart from its primary dwellers. On that note, it is a good home design idea to have multitasking furniture. Firstly, ensure that you have ample sleeping space—and we’re not just talking about the number of bedrooms nor futons. Stylish bunk beds; a classic Murphy Bed; or even an ottoman like Bo Concept’s Xtra Stool, which folds out into a single bed are all great options, not to mention space-saving solutions, for when you need to sleep guests.
An extendable table is another useful addition to your vacation home. When needed for entertaining or to accommodate activities like arts and crafts with the kids or meal prepping for a family lunch, an extendable table easily expands for more surface area to work with. No need to reach out for unsightly fold out plastic tables.
Hardy furniture and decor
Aesthetically-pleasing vacation home design is useless if your furniture and decor cannot withstand the elements. This is especially true for beach-side vacation homes where the salty air can wreck havoc on pieces ill-suited to such environs.
For example, when choosing pillow cases for your outdoor seating, look for performance fabrics designed for outdoor use. Some examples of these durable fabrics include: olefin, nylon, polyester, and acrylic. Sunbrella, which was developed in the 1960s, is another popular performance fabric that is resilient enough for home exterior use.
When it come so furniture, on the other hand, look for materials that can withstand humidity, sunlight, and salty ocean air. Some excellent options include durable teak, stainless steel, synthetic resins (also known as Poly / HDPE lumber), and aluminum.
Décor that doubles as entertainment
A stunning glass chess set that also serves as tabletop décor. Metallic playing cards like this stunning piece from Tiffany. A marbled Tic Tac Toe set. Keep your guests entertained with items that are functional yet still contributes to the visual interest of your space.
Store items in style
That said, your collection of board games, books, and kids toys can still find their rightful place in your vacation home through proper storage. Look beyond the usual plastic containers and pay special attention to your storage choices. These too can double as décor. Woven jute boxes make it easy to stow away items when not in use. Wild card items like a powder-coated locker or even a vintage index card cabinet can also go beyond storing the original items they were intended to house.
Explore design styles
Finally, your vacation home provides an opportunity for you to explore design styles that are different from your main home. If your residence has a more brutalist, modern aesthetic, your beach house, say, can benefit from more natural materials that take inspiration from its environment. Think light wood and rattan furniture, acacia décor, and potted plants that bring the outdoors in.

On the other hand, if your primary residence has tropical-inspired interiors, your vacation home could be an opportunity to explore a sleek aesthetic with clean lines, mid-century modern furniture, and a pared down color palette.
